Open Thread - Anti-ATV People Piss Me Off

Some time ago, I posted a thread about the anti-ATV lobby and why I think they suck. It got a fair number of comments, went dead for a while, and has recently been resurrected. Now the comment spammers have latched on to the thread and won't let go, so I've had to close comments on that thread. If anyone wishes to comment further, post in this thread.

Hey tom,
just wanted to say i completely agree with your article. I have been living in my town for 22 years thats my whole life, and where we used to ride was all woods is now all houses. there is still some woods left over so we try and ride up there but all these stupid people who move in to the new homes call the police and they have never lived here and they act like they own the place and we get arrested! it pisses me off we never had a problem before now its just lets build and build so you can't do anything.

I don't like ATV's because of the way they tear up the property. I've had problems with people ignoring signs and even driving their ATV's right across my front lawn. I still allow them the use of my property, but I am considering closing it because of the damage. I know some of the people who use the trails and they're nice people. The problem is that my loyalty lies with the property and not with ATV riders. I find that a lot of ATV riders display a sense of entitlement, as if they have some fundamental right to make noise, pollute the air and tear up the ground.
My biggest problem with ATV's is the damage to the ground. Public lands should offer enjoyment for everyone, and if ATV's detract from the enjoyment of the majority of people, they shouldn't be allowed there.
