W's Missing Year

According to Salon, Daddy Bush hooked his son up with a nice Alabama Senate campaign gig to get him out of Texas, where he was drinking like a fish and embarrassing the family. W claims he transferred to the Alabama National Guard in 1972 to get some campaign experience. Did he actually serve? Not according to the subject of this Salon story.
